ani boom

Animation showcase. Good place to browse animations from all over the world. The work is mostly 2D and alot of fun.

Archive Org

Copyright free videos, pdf books, and user mashups. This is a collection of public domain media. Browse the video collections and you'll find some really interesting stuff. The Prelinger Archives in particular offer some great material. You can download the videos and books and use them in any way you want. The russian science videos and cold war era stuff is haunting.

Arthur ganson

Arthur Ganson makes kinetic sculptures. His machines are simply beautiful, "machine with 23 scraps of paper" is my all time favorite. His videos are all over the net, it's worth scouring for them.

Astronomy Picture of the Day

Each day they post a new astronomy picture. Amazing resource for celestial source imagery. Be sure to browse their archives. I have this site set as my homepage.

Animation World Network TV

Great showcase for animations, lots of experimental and 3D work.

Don Hertzfeldt

Really insane stuff. Not for the faint of heart. His most classic animation is "Rejected". Try and watch it all the way through, the end sequence is brilliant.

Hack a Day

Hardware hacking galore. Projects for modding nearly any piece of hardware you can imagine. Most of it is way over my head, but it's fun to read about the crazy projects people produce. Everything from espresso machines to weather balloons.

Traveler Photography

Traveler Terpening takes amazing photographs. Nearly the every photo in my Noatak photo album was taken by him. The blog section in particular is definitely worth monitoring. There are a few links to his other sites too, all worth checking out.

Various Ends

Brian Gadomski's homesite. Brian and I worked together on a project once and I was blown away by the quality of his work. His animations are great, and his juggling is unfathomable. And if you ever have technical questions...

Vimeo

Vimeo is a high-def YouTube. Lots of animators and videographers are putting work up here. Alot of the work is high caliber. The HD channels are particularly fun to browse through. Membership is free, but it can be lethal during finals.

Wendell Castle

Wendell Castle is a trained scupltor who migrated into the field of furniture making. His work set the stage for the Studio Furniture movement. His website is a bit of a pain in the ass to navigate, but the work represented there makes it worthwhile.
